LANSING — State Rep. Sherry Gay-Dagnogo (D-Detroit) was sworn in officially today as representative for the 8th House District for the 2019-2020 legislative session. The swearing-in ceremony marked the formal opening of Michigan’s 100th Legislature. In response, Rep. Gay-Dagnogo issued the following statement:
“Families across Detroit and Michigan came out in November to voice strong support for a government that is accountable and responsive to the pressing needs of our communities, and I am proud to have the opportunity to continue advocating for these Michiganders. With new leadership in Lansing, I hope we can get to work on the ongoing crises affecting our state; from water quality to education to auto insurance, our state is in desperate need of reform, and as chair of the Detroit Caucus, I will ensure the voice of Detroiters is heard throughout these deliberations. I look forward to working with Gov. Whitmer on the issues that matter to our community, and I applaud Rep. Chatfield for highlighting the importance of compromise and bipartisanship to move Michigan forward in his first speech as Speaker of the House.”
