LANSING – State Representative Sheldon Neeley (D-Flint) was sworn in to office today to begin his first term as legislator for the 34th House District. Joining him from Genesee County were returning state Representatives Pam Faris (D-Clio), who represents the 48th District, Phil Phelps (D-Flushing), who represents the 49th District, and Charles Smiley (D-Burton), who represents the 50th District.
“The future for the 98th Legislature is predicated on our ability to see the needs of our community, and that of the communities that my colleagues represent. We must work and fight for a new tomorrow that serves our citizen’s best interest and the interests of our children,” Neeley said. “There are many concerns that citizens have, but none more important than the freedom to have choice. I have and will always be committed to the protection of that choice.”
Rep. Faris returns to begin her second term this year.
“During the next two years, we will work harder than ever to bring tax relief to middle-class families and seniors, while giving our kids the best education we can offer,” Faris said. “We owe it to them to come to Lansing and do what’s right.”
Rep. Smiley is beginning his third and final term as a state representative due to term limits.
“It’s hard to believe that these next two years will be my last serving the people of House District 50 as their state representative,” Smiley said. “But rest assured, I will make these next two years my finest, as I work tirelessly for my constituents and Michigan to help our state grow and succeed into the future.”
Rep. Phelps is beginning his first full term as state representative, after serving a majority of the 97th Legislature due to a special election.
“During the last year, my staff and I made a lot of positive moves for the people of Michigan, and we look to continue that into the next term,” Phelps said. “We are excited to welcome Rep. Neeley to a strong group of Genesee County Democrats working to restore fairness to Michigan.”
