LANSING, Mich., Jan. 17, 2023 — Speaker Joe Tate (D-Detroit) announced last week the chairs and members of the Michigan House of Representatives’ standing committees, subcommittees and appropriations subcommittees. State Rep. Kristian Grant (D-Grand Rapids) has been appointed to the following committees and subcommittees: Economic Development and Small Business (majority vice chair), Housing, Insurance and Financial Services, Tax Policy, and Regulatory Reform.

“There is a clear commonality that runs through all the committees I have been appointed to — economic development,” Grant said. “It was important to me that my office has a strong economic focus, because I see the lack of investment and development as the most pressing issue for urban cores. The state of our community’s roads, education, access to housing and wealth is a result of how unintentional we have been with economic development strategies. I will use this opportunity to make economic change that really matters to Michiganders. Economic development connects to all parts of our social fabric, so improving it means improving our schools, our environment, our housing and our overall resiliency as a state. In the end, it simply means providing opportunities for residents to build wealth that allows them to improve their quality of life.”
