Dear Neighbor,

Last week, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced that more than 40 county land banks and municipalities across Michigan would receive blight elimination grants from the fiscal 2022-23 budget. Two recipients fall within our district: the Detroit Land Bank, which will receive more than $990,000, and the Oakland County Land Bank, which will receive more than $552,000.

I’m excited about this news. Land banks are important tools to help make our communities better places to live and work. No one wants blight or its associated crime in our neighborhoods, and land banks can help spur development in its place. With track records of opening doors for individual entrepreneurs and small businesses, the Detroit and Oakland land banks have truly earned this funding. I look forward to the further growth they will enable.

I hope you have been enjoying the beginning of fall so far. Should you have any questions or concerns for me or my staff, please don’t hesitate to contact us by phone at (517) 373-3815 or email at MikeMcFall@house.mi.gov.
