LANSING, Sept. 9, 2019— Gov. Whitmer and Republican legislative leaders announced today that they’ve reached an agreement to pursue a state budget for the 2019-2020 fiscal year separate from a long-term plan to increase road funding. In response, House Democratic Leader Christine Greig (D-Farmington Hills) issued the following statement:

“Averting a government shutdown is a win for all Michiganders, but a budget that doesn’t offer a long-term solution to fix decades of underinvestment in our schools and infrastructure is not the solution we need. We must do all we can to finally and permanently solve this problem. That’s why I’m calling on the governor to launch a bipartisan task force to find real, long-term road funding solutions immediately. Let’s come together and seek out viable options so that the Legislature has all the tools it needs to act in the best interest of the people of Michigan.”
