LANSING — This morning Gov. Gretchen Whitmer ordered the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to issue emergency rules to protect Michigan’s kids from the harmful effects of vaping. The governor’s order bans the sale of flavored nicotine vaping products, and misleading marketing regarding their safety. In response, House Democratic Leader Christine Greig (D-Farmington Hills) issued the following statement:

“Michigan’s future success is contingent on the health and safety of our next generation, so I’m extremely grateful for the governor’s leadership on this issue. Until today, companies have been able to use whatever tactics they wanted to get Michigan’s kids hooked on an addictive substance, and as a result we’ve got a public health crisis on our hands. Today’s executive directive is the first step to undoing that damage, and protecting the health of everyday Michiganders now and in the future. I applaud Gov. Whitmer for taking this stand.”
