LANSING — Today, House Republicans approved a resolution to reject Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s recent executive order which, among other things, eliminates three review boards the Legislature passed last year. These review boards allow corporate representatives to oversee the DEQ, now called EGLE under the Governor’s reorganization plan, and its permitting process. In response, state Rep. Vanessa Guerra (D-Saginaw) issued the following statement:
“Michigan Republicans proved today that their recent talks of bipartisanship and cooperation were nothing more than empty rhetoric. Michigan families deserve clean water, safe air and a government that works for them, and after years of governmental inaction that was exactly what Gov. Whitmer’s directive set out to do. Yet instead of focusing on the needs and rights of everyday Michiganders, the legislative majority seems more interested in appeasing the corporate polluters who have devastated our communities.”
