LANSING — House Republicans approved Senate Bill 1176 today which will exempt nonprofit entities capable of making political contributions from having to publicly disclose the personal information of their donors. All Democrats voted against the dark money proposal. In response to its passage, state Rep. Vanessa Guerra (D-Saginaw) issued the following statement:

“Michiganders sent us to Lansing to make sure they have affordable health care, clean water and smooth roads, not to make it easier for dark money to flow into our elections and drown out their voices. Yet that is exactly what lame-duck Republicans have chosen to do, again subverting the will of the people who made it clear in November they are tired of the political theater playing out before them. At a time when the people of Michigan are demanding to be heard, this legislation moves us in the absolute wrong direction.”
