LANSING, Mich., Jan. 26, 2023 — The Michigan House passed House Bills 4001 and 4002 and a school aid supplemental budget (Senate Bill 8) today to boost the economy and provide much-needed relief to the people of Michigan. After the legislation passed, state Rep. Jim Haadsma (D-Battle Creek) issued the following statement:

“I am always thankful I have the opportunity to be a representative for my district, and after tonight’s vote, I am especially grateful because we passed legislation that is going to have substantial, tangible impacts on folks all across Michigan. HB 4002 expands a tax credit to working families, which means they will have a much-needed and deserved financial breather. On top of that, we passed a bill to repeal the retirement tax, so that seniors can have more peace of mind during their golden years. We made sure to help Michigan schools tonight, too, with funding reimbursements for special education needs. All in all, this was an amazing night making laws to support Michigan workers and families. It’s this kind of legislation that is going to keep up momentum when it comes to economic growth.”
