LANSING, Mich., April 27, 2022 — Today, state Rep. Jim Haadsma (D-Battle Creek) introduced House Concurrent Resolution 17 to call on leadership to appropriate the remaining $2.8 billion from the American Rescue Plan Act. This comes one month after the Michigan House and Senate appropriated $4.7 billion of federal funding to improve water quality infrastructure, broadband access and residential clean energy. Haadsma issued the following statement:

“Our local communities are still attempting to financially recover from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The remaining $2.8 billion is our tax dollars that should be used for the very reason we pay taxes — to make critical investments in our people, small businesses and infrastructure. The pandemic highlighted how we are coming up short in each of these areas and made it impossible for us to ignore them any longer. It’s time to put this money to work and stop letting it sit on the shelf, collecting dust while Michiganders are asking for help.”
