Community centers to receive over $1.3 million for programming, capital projects

LANSING, Mich. March 6, 2024 — State Rep. Jim Haadsma (D-Battle Creek) is pleased to announce $1.3 million has been awarded to three nonprofits in the city of Battle Creek. RISE Corp., the Burma Center and the First Congregational Church will receive funds to improve their local community centers. The American Rescue Plan Act provided $60 million to Michigan for the state’s Community Center Grant program.

“Reinvesting in Battle Creek is a core priority of mine,” Haadsma said. “These grants provide vital funding for three nonprofits doing excellent work. RISE Corp., the Burma Center and the First Congregational Church have their boots on the ground supporting those in need, as well as building a stronger, tight-knit community. I’m grateful the state recognizes the leadership and potential in Battle Creek.”
