State Rep. Jim Haadsma (D-Battle Creek) delivers a floor speech on the House Floor in the Michigan Capitol Building in Lansing.

LANSING, Mich., Nov. 25, 2024 – The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced the reopening of 17 bridges along I-94 in Calhoun County after more than two years of rebuilding and repairs. The repairs are part of a $160 million project that will also repave and implement drainage improvements to 10 miles of I-94 and the Battle Creek Rest Area parking lot in 2025. MDOT projected that the improvements to I-94 will support 2,032 jobs in Calhoun County, fostering greater economic growth in its communities. State Rep. Jim Haadsma (D-Battle Creek), whose district lies within Calhoun County, commended the state for its investments in the local economy:

“This project is a huge investment in Calhoun County – these repairs are just the start of a long-term plan to foster huge economic growth in our community. The connection of I-94 to I-69 is integral to the flow of business to our downtowns. These bridge repairs will not only enhance daily commutes and improve transit to those local businesses, but also promote industry growth in the area. Thank you to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for prioritizing investments in our state highways critical to our economy through the Rebuilding Michigan program, and to the Biden-Harris administration for providing federal support. I look forward to the continued benefits this project will bring, including thousands of jobs and continued economic growth.”
