BATTLE CREEK, Mich., Aug. 31, 2022 — AT&T donated school supplies to local school in Michigan during this back-to-school season. State Rep. Jim Haadsma (D-Battle Creek) helped to deliver the donated backpacks to kids at Prairieview Elementary in Battle Creek.
“The back-to-school time of year is so exciting and heartwarming, especially after a tough couple years. I want to thank AT&T for the donation — its generosity is greatly appreciated,” Haadsma said. “I was grateful for the opportunity to deliver the backpacks to Prairieview Elementary. The excitement and joy the students expressed with their new gear is unmatched. It was fantastic to see students and teachers together in classrooms — it’s clear they are all ready to thrive and grow. Have a great school year, everyone!”
Haadsma has been a proponent of making school supplies more affordable, including supporting Gov. Gretchen Witmer’s proposed tax holiday on school supplies as part of her MI Back to School Plan. Nineteen other states implemented temporary tax holidays to diminish the extra burden on parents and students. Tax-exempt student items include clothing, school supplies — such as notebooks, pencils, binders, calculators and lunchboxes — personal computers, and personal computer accessories. With costs rising across the board, the donation of these school supplies to Michigan students helps alleviate some of the many financial burdens that are impacting Michigan families.
