ALBION — The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) announced this morning that it would approve a $931,534 Michigan Community Revitalization Program grant and allow $217,388 in local tax capture to support the redevelopment of blighted and partially vacant properties within Albion’s historic downtown. State Rep. Jim Haadsma (D-Battle Creek) spoke in support of the project during the Michigan Strategic Fund’s board meeting.
“Projects like the Brick Street Lofts are one of the best ways to breathe new life into our aging downtowns and that’s why I am so pleased to see the state support Albion with these funds,” said Haadsma. “This is the future our residents want to see for Albion, and this project is a step in the right direction. Additional retail and living spaces in the historic downtown will draw more businesses and create new job opportunities.”
The Brick Streets Loft LLC project will redevelop the property into a mixed-use development with several residential and commercial units. The project is expected to generate a total of $3,011,972 in community development.
