Haadsma on Deployment of Battle Creek Guard Members to Maintain Safety at Southern Border

BATTLE CREEK, Mich., Oct. 25, 2024 — The Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs announced that about 120 soldiers of the Michigan Army National Guard’s 1463rd Transportation Company, based in Battle Creek, will prepare for deployment to the Southwest Border to help maintain the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s border security operations. The soldiers will gather with their families on Oct. 26 at Lakeview Middle School in Battle Creek for a send-off ahead of their deployment. State Rep. Jim Haadsma (D-Battle Creek), whose district includes Battle Creek, issued the following statement:

“Battle Creek’s National Guard members have answered the call of duty again, this time to help maintain safety and order at the southern border. No matter your party affiliation, it goes without saying that immigration is a complicated issue that faces our federal government, and the soldiers in the Michigan National Guard have stepped up to serve, as they have done previously. I have full confidence in their professionalism and ability to assist in keeping border security operations running safely. While they are deployed, the greater Battle Creek community will care for and support their families. I also encourage military families in our community to contact the Michigan National Guard Family Programs Office for additional support, programs and resources.”
