LANSING — State Rep. Abdullah Hammoud (D-Dearborn) has introduced House Bill 4784, which would exempt veterans from the recreation passport requirement. Essentially, the legislation would allow veterans, upon showing their government-issued identification card, to be granted free access to state parks.

“Veterans served our country and many risked their lives to protect us,” Hammoud said. “I believe veterans should not have to pay to visit the parks they served to protect. Michigan consistently ranks at the bottom of states concerning quality of life for veterans. This proposal is one of many things our state should be doing to make positive strides on this important issue.”
