DEARBORN — The U.S. Supreme Court ruled last week that the Trump Administration failed to adequately justify their proposed inclusion of a citizenship status question on 2020 census forms. Following the 5-4 ruling, the Trump Administration announced yesterday that printing of the census forms has begun without a question regarding citizenship. In response, state Rep. Abdullah Hammoud (D-Dearborn) issued the following statement:

“Every person in America and across our state should have the freedom to complete the 2020 census without facing bigotry or dehumanization during the process. Make no mistake – including the question was yet another intentional attempt by the Trump Administration to undercount and undermine minority communities, with the goal of diminishing their political representation. Although this divisive strategy wasted countless taxpayer dollars, Americans everywhere can be confident in fully participating in this fundamental component of our democracy.”
