In observance of Equal Pay Day, a bicameral coalition of Michigan Democratic legislators led by members of the Progressive Women’s Caucus (PWC) unveiled legislation during a virtual press conference aimed at closing the gender pay gap in Michigan. In response, state Rep. Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores), sponsor of a bill in the package, released the following statement:
“Michigan has the opportunity to become a leader in the fight for pay equity by ensuring that our state contracts are with companies who can certify that there is no gender-based discrimination in their pay scale. I am excited to join my colleagues on this package, and I look forward to a future for our state where the wage gap no longer exists.”
