LANSING, Mich., Sept. 22, 2021 — The Michigan House of Representatives passed a budget for the upcoming fiscal year with historic investments in health care, child care and infrastructure. This budget included $2 Million for the Chapaton Retention Treatment Basin project championed by state Rep. Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores). The Chapaton Retention Basin serves the nearly 140,000 residents of Eastpointe, Roseville and St. Clair Shores. Expanding the retention of the basin will help prevent untreated wastewater from spilling into Lake St. Clair. The project has received broad support from Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller and members of the Macomb County legislative delegation. Hertel issued the following statement:
“I am proud to support a House budget that includes desperately needed funds to improve Macomb County’s water infrastructure. A budget is a statement of values, and we have shown that Michigan is serious about ensuring high quality water for all citizens. Protecting our natural resources, especially our water, is critical to our state’s future success. I look forward to continued work with state, local and federal leadership to support the over 4 million Michiganders who rely on this system for clean water.”
