LANSING, Mich., June 8, 2023 — State Rep. Jenn Hill (D-Marquette) introduced House Resolution 117, which names June 3-11 as Great Lakes & Freshwater Week. After the House passed the resolution, Hill issued the following statement:
“It was an honor to sponsor and support this resolution. Michigan is the Great Lakes State, and we have an abundance of beautiful rivers, streams and waterways. Many people don’t realize we are surrounded by over 80% of North America’s freshwater — and with this in mind, we must maintain our commitment to ensuring all people have equitable access to clean water. As summer begins, I also want to encourage all Michigan families to get outdoors, go kayaking, swimming or even try a new water sport. To top it off, this weekend is free fishing weekend, so no license is needed. Grab your fishing pole, get outdoors and find a way to appreciate our Great Lakes and inland fresh water.”
