LANSING — This evening, the Speaker of the House announced committee assignments for the 2019-20 legislative session. State Rep. Jon Hoadley (D-Kalamazoo) was named Democratic Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Committee. This committee plays a vital role in crafting the state’s budget and will also review any bill that includes state funding appropriations a second time before reporting them to the floor for a full vote before the House. In response to his appointment, Rep. Hoadley issued the following statement:

“I am grateful to Speaker Chatfield for the opportunity to serve as the Democratic vice chair of the House Appropriations committee. This is a tremendous responsibility that I do not take lightly. I look forward to charting a new course for Michigan that invests in people and makes sure the priorities of Michigan families are reflected in the state’s budget. We will work to support our local communities, provide quality public education, ensure clean water, and protect affordable health care. The taxpayers of Michigan have earned nothing less. Gov. Whitmer has called on us to be committed to building bridges in our state, and I am ready to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to write the next chapter of Michigan’s story.”
