LANSING — Tonight, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered her first State of the State address, outlining her vision for the state and calling for bipartisan collaboration to address the issues facing Michigan’s working families. In response, state Rep. Jon Hoadley (D-Kalamazoo) issued the following statement:

Gov. Whitmer’s vision for Michigan is the breath of fresh air that working families have been waiting for. In charting this new course, I’m ready to work with the governor and our great community partners like Ms. Miller and OutFront Kalamazoo to finally expand the Elliott-Larsen Act to deliver a future free of discrimination. No one should be denied opportunity based on who they are or who they love. I’m proud to have Gov. Whitmer leading the way.

Rep. Hoadley was joined by OutFront Kalamazoo Executive Director Denise Miller for the address. Under Ms. Miller’s leadership, OutFront Kalamazoo is committed to creating a just, inclusive, equitable and supportive environment in Southwest Michigan for people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions.
