LANSING — Today, House Republicans approved a resolution to reject Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s recent executive order which, among other things, eliminates three review boards the Legislature passed last year. These review boards allow corporate representatives to oversee the DEQ, now called EGLE under the Governor’s reorganization plan, and its permitting process. In response, state Rep. Rachel Hood (D-Grand Rapids) issued the following statement:
“After nearly a decade of legislative inaction, at least two million Michigan families continue to drink from a water source contaminated by PFAS chemicals. The residents of Kent County made it clear that the time has come for our state government to ensure their water is safe, their air is clean, and their communities are free of toxic pollution. I proudly stand with Gov. Whitmer in her efforts to protect the safety and wellbeing of every Michigander and our magnificent Great Lakes for the people of Michigan.”
