HOLT, Mich., July 3, 2025 — July 1 was the statutory deadline for the Legislature to pass a balanced budget for the upcoming fiscal year. House Republicans missed it, dragging their feet and refusing to negotiate in good faith. After the deadline passed, state Rep. Kara Hope (D-Holt) issued the following statement:
“It’s past the July 1 deadline and House Republicans completely failed to pass — or even propose — a final budget for the people of Michigan. Funding for our schools, infrastructure and local services is in limbo. Families in Holt and across Michigan deserve better than this manufactured uncertainty. They deserve results.
“As someone who’s fought for education, public safety and working families, I’m frustrated that Republican leadership dropped the ball and left people waiting. We need a budget now — one that reflects our values and delivers for every community.”
