LANSING- Yesterday, the House of Representatives finished passing the collection of bills comprising the Fiscal Year 2020-2021 budget, which included the budget for the Michigan Department of Transportation. Despite House Democrats introducing a number of amendments, House Republicans ultimately rejected them, resulting in budgets that fail to adequately fund road repairs, schools, or the infrastructure upgrades needed to ensure Michiganders have access to clean water. In response to the passing of the budget bills, House Democratic Leader Christine Greig (D-Farmington Hills) issued the following statement:
“The budgets passed this week are nothing but a shell game, a re-introduction of failed ideas that will keep Michigan stuck in the past instead of building toward a brighter future. It’s time to face facts: arbitrary cuts and rearrangements of funds will not address our crumbling infrastructure, help our students or ensure we have clean drinking water. We know that Michiganders deserve better, and that’s what we’re going to keep fighting for — a budget that delivers real solutions.”
