“With the legal review of their own counsel concurring with the Attorney General’s opinion, there is now no doubt whatsoever regarding the legal authority of the Michigan State Capitol Commission to ban firearms in the State Capitol.

“The Commission can and must act immediately. It is the responsibility of the Commission to protect the safety and security of legislators, staff and the thousands of individuals who visit the Capitol every year.

“We must not wait until the threats of violence and intimidation of recent months turn into a dangerous incident before action is taken. I urge the Capitol Commission to not delay this matter any further, not shirk their clear responsibility and not allow party politics to impede on the safety of everyone who enters the Capitol.”
