“During his time as UAW president, Mr. Bieber ushered in a new style of leadership in a changing world. At the bargaining table, he was unwavering in his fight for the tenents of a good job: fair pay for hard work, good benefits and job security. His steadfast dedication to fairness spanned the globe, leading the UAW in supporting the Solidarity labor movement in Poland and the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. As we continue to work to keep the middle class strong in Michigan, we can look to Mr. Beiber’s example of keeping a cool head and easy-going style when faced with difficult challenges. I offer my deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time.”
