LANSING, Mich., — Gov. Whitmer today signed an executive order directing schools to make adjustments to their operations for the duration of this academic year.
“The continued impact of this pandemic is yet unknown and right now, we need decisive action to ensure we are protecting the people of Michigan,” said House Democratic Leader Christine Greig (D-Farmington Hills). “Despite the fluidity of this crisis, parents, students, teachers and staff must have certainty and stability. The order executed today provides clear parameters that educators can use to plan for the rest of the school year and beyond. Above all else, we must ensure that continuity of learning is preserved.”
“As we face this public health crisis, we have to do everything we can to protect our students and educators,” said State Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown). “And, while we know this was a tough call for the Governor to make, we believe it’s the right one. The data shows that it will take several months before things can safely start going back to normal, which is why our school districts need clarity and the tools to start planning now. In the months ahead, we are prepared to work with the Governor every step of the way to make sure our kids and educators have the resources they need to move forward.”
