LANSING, Mich., June 22, 2021 – House Democrats opposed House Resolution 22 today, which would affirm the right to life of every unborn child and call for the enforcement of all laws limiting abortion.

“Instead of focusing on the real problems our state is facing, House Republicans are launching an attack on women’s rights and seeking to insert themselves into a decision that a person should work through with loved ones and their doctor, not the government,” said House Democratic Leader Donna Lasinski (D-Scio Township). “This is nothing more than a partisan ploy to steer conversations toward divisive issues.”

“I appreciate that abortion is a complex issue for all individuals involved,” said state Rep. Laurie Pohutsky (D-Livonia), chair of the Progressive Women’s Caucus. “Because of its complexity, it is absolutely not my place nor the place of any other government official to make the decision to end a pregnancy for someone else. Politicians need to stay out of this very personal and private decision and allow a person to make the choice that is right for them.”

HR 22 passed the House on a voice vote.
