LANSING, Mich., June 26, 2024 — State Rep. Samantha Steckloff (D-Farmington Hills) celebrated the passage of her bill, HB 4409, out of the Michigan House of Representatives, requiring drug companies to report increases in prescription drug costs. The bill establishes the Drug Manufacturing Data Reporting Act to ensure Michigan’s drug companies are transparent about their pricing, giving consumers greater insight to make informed prescription drug purchases. After the vote, Steckloff issued the following statement:
“From medicinal needs to birth control, prescription drugs are essential for many Michiganders. No person should go unaware of changes to their prescription prices. My bill holds drug manufacturers accountable by providing state oversight and requiring notices when prices are raised. Consumers deserve the right to make informed purchasing decisions, especially for recurring payments. I am excited to see the passage of legislation that brings drug pricing transparency to Michigan.”
