LANSING — State Representative Leslie Love (D-Detroit) is pleased to announce the Michigan House unanimously passed House Resolution 332 on Wednesday to declare September 2016 as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in Michigan.
“We lose more than 1,300 of our residents annually in Michigan to suicide, and suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the state,” Love said. “Suicide has so many victims; not just the person who commits suicide, but the people left behind who suffer with the pain of ‘what if’ for a lifetime.”
The purpose of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month is to help promote resources and awareness around the issues of suicide prevention, how you can help others and how to talk about suicide without increasing the risk of harm.
“What makes suicide even more devastating is that the highest rates of suicides are among people in the prime of their lives from age 25 to 50, but make no mistake about it, suicide touches people of all ages and walks of life,” Love said.
