Dear Friends,

This was an important day in the Michigan Legislature as we inch ever closer to finalizing the state budget. Today, both the House and Senate passed the departmental budgets for Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD); Community Colleges; Corrections (MDOC); Education; Environmental, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE); General Government; Health and Human Services (DHHS); Higher Education; Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS); Judiciary; Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA); Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA); Natural Resources (DNR); State Police (MSP); and Transportation (MDOT).

Now that those budgets have passed both chambers of the Legislature, they will be presented to the governor for her to sign, veto, or sign with specific line-item vetoes. I will continue to keep you updated on the budget process as we near its completion ahead of the Oct. 1 deadline.

I also want to give special thanks to Pastor Winston Patterson for beginning today’s session with an inspiring invocation. Pastor Patterson and his wife Gloria traveled to Lansing from Washtenaw County where they preside over the Ypsilanti Seventh-day Adventist Church. Thank you, Pastor Peterson!
