DETROIT, Feb. 7, 2022 — In a letter, state Rep. Cynthia A. Johnson (D-Detroit) urged her colleagues in the Michigan House of Representatives to oppose House Bill 5512. The legislation would allow judges and magistrates to deny the use of medical marijuana to a person despite the recommendations of a licensed medical professional.
“This bill is mean-spirited and will open a Pandora’s box of opportunities for judicial misconduct,” Johnson said. “It will decimate families and those trying to kick their addiction to opioids. The bill will also serve as a pipeline to prison, which is already at capacity with far too many low-level drug offenders.”
