DETROIT, Mich., Aug. 27, 2021 — As COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to climb in the city of Detroit, state Rep. Cynthia A. Johnson (D-Detroit) is encouraging qualifying Detroiters to receive the third vaccination shot. About 42% of Detroiters are currently vaccinated.

“I can’t express enough the importance of keeping our city, especially those who are among the most vulnerable, safe from this deadly virus,” Johnson said. “We know that the COVID-19 vaccines work and that the vast majority of people severely sick and in the hospitals are unvaccinated. Receiving a third shot gives us the boost we desperately need to stay protected as we continue to fight the delta variant. If you are eligible, I encourage you to get your shot today. Next month, once it’s available to all Detroiters, I’ll be in line for my booster shot, and I hope the rest of you will join me.”

Currently, people who are considered immunocompromised and have received their second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines at least 28 days prior are eligible for the third shot. Other Detroiters who are fully vaccinated will be eligible for booster shots six months after their second vaccination dose, starting Sept. 20.

Third COVID-19 booster shots are now available at all Detroit vaccination sites. To make an appointment at a Detroit vaccination site, call (313) 230-0505 or visit www.detroitmi.gov/health. Walk-ins are also available.
