LANSING, Mich., May 17, 2022 — Ten people were killed at a Buffalo, N.Y., supermarket Saturday in a racially motivated mass shooting. State Rep. Cynthia A. Johnson (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:
“We are truly in a sad place when people can get gunned down in a grocery store just because they are Black. This terrorist and other white supremacists who watch the poisonous lies spewed by Tucker Carlson and other Fox News hosts want Black people to look over their shoulders as they go to work, drop their kids off at school and buy groceries in America – their home – but they will not win. No matter what race, color or party, all Americans need to stand up to such hate and call out the people in power who spread it. My heart hurts for the Buffalo community, and my prayers are with them. I will do everything in my power to stop such bigotry and gun violence. I hope my colleagues will join me.”
