DETROIT, Jan. 31, 2022 — State Rep. Cynthia A. Johnson (D-Detroit) has submitted a request to the mayor of Detroit and the Detroit City Council that all abandoned properties in the city of Detroit be thoroughly searched for any signs of illegal activity. Johnson felt the need to submit the request after a Florida man was found dead in an abandoned Detroit business.

“Unfortunately, this tragic news highlights the ongoing blight issue within the city and the wide range of consequences that stem from this long-standing problem,” Johnson said. “As public officials, we have a duty to the safety and well-being of our constituents. This includes supporting our law enforcement with the resources necessary to provide our constituents with safe neighborhoods and peace of mind.”
