Join Me Tonight: Your Right to Vote Town Hall

Join special guests Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum, and representatives from the Lansing Area League of Women Voters and All Voting is Local for a discussion on elections, democracy and your right to vote. This town hall will be held today, Sept. 9, from 6-7 p.m. in Conference Room A of the Ingham County Human Services Building, 5303 S. Cedar St. in Lansing. Please email KaraHope@house.mi.gov with any questions or specific topics you would like covered during the town hall.

Operating Engineers Facility Offers Training in the Trades

Tuesday, I had the opportunity to tour the Operating Engineers Local 324 training facility in Howell. This state-of-the-art facility provides hands-on training to students and union apprentices seeking job opportunities in the construction industry. As a member of the Workforce, Trades, and Talent committee, I appreciated learning more about hands-on resources for those who pursue careers building our infrastructure.

This week is National Suicide Prevention Week. In 2019, suicide was the 10th leading cause of death in Michigan and nationwide. Individuals feeling emotional distress can also visit Michigan.gov/StayWell for additional emotional-support services. The Michigan Stay Well Counseling COVID-19 Hotline has counselors available to talk 24/7. To speak with a counselor, call (888) 535-6136 and press “8.”
