Join us tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug. 11, from 4-7 p.m. at Ypsilanti Freighthouse, 100 Marketplace in Depot Town, for a public information meeting regarding the pedestrian pathway project. Presentations will start at 4:30 and 6 p.m.
After working diligently over the past three years with the Michigan Department of Transportation, we are now on the verge of beginning construction of a pedestrian pathway on the existing Huron Street bridge over I-94 linking Ypsilanti city and township. The project is to be done in conjunction with the city “road diet” effort to resurface and reconfigure streets, including major portions of Huron, Hamilton and Cross. Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation, the Washtenaw Area Transportation Authority, the Ypsilanti Community Utilities Authority, Ypsilanti Township and the city of Ypsilanti, have been tremendous partners in this cooperative effort, and much credit is due to all of the hard-working state, county and local officials and employees who have come together to make this project possible.
This pedestrian pathway, which was first proposed more than 20 years ago, will finally provide walkers and bicyclists safe, convenient passage over I-94, creating access to work, shopping and recreation for residents of both city and township.
