LANSING, Mich., March 13, 2020 — State Rep. Jewell Jones (D-Inkster) successfully secured $500,000 of additional funding in the supplemental budget to renovate Garden City’s only fire station to provide adequate accommodations for both male and female employees.
“These improvements to the firehouse will enable the city to hire more female firefighters and paramedics, ensuring the best possible candidates are awarded these jobs so crucial to our community’s safety. These positions should be awarded based solely on merit and not determined by limitations of facilities that can only accommodate some employees, but not all. Not only will these funds promote gender equality in the workforce, they will expand the talent pool from which we can hire and create a safer Garden City.”
