LANSING — This morning Gov. Gretchen Whitmer ordered the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to issue emergency rules to protect Michigan’s kids from the harmful effects of vaping. The governor’s order bans the sale of flavored nicotine vaping products, and misleading marketing regarding their safety. In response, state Rep. Jewell Jones (D-Inkster) issued the following statement:
“It’s no secret that elected officials have a history of being out-of-touch with youth, but I’m proud to now have a governor that pays attention to trends among our children and understands the danger this ‘vaping’ epidemic poses. Let me be clear – there is no such thing as a ‘safe’ nicotine product and you can’t trust the word of someone who stands to make money off you. I support our Governor’s decision to prevent these companies from taking advantage of our children by hooking them at a young age in an attempt to create lifelong customers.”
