LANSING — Last week, the Speaker of the House announced committee assignments for the 2019-20 legislative session. State Rep. Sheryl Kennedy (D-Davison) was assigned to the House Appropriations Committee and will serve as a member of the School Aid and Education, and Corrections subcommittees as well as the Democratic Vice Chair of the Agricultural and Rural Development subcommittee. The Appropriations Committee and its subcommittees play a vital role in determining Michigan’s budget priorities and funding allocation.
“I want to thank Speaker Chatfield for giving me the opportunity to serve on these instrumental committees,” said Rep. Kennedy. “I firmly believe that many of the problems that our families face when it comes to public education stem from a failure to fully fund and support the teachers and schools that need it most. Our hardworking educators and administrators know how to best prepare students for success, so I hope to use this new role to ensure Michigan allocates the resources necessary to help them carry out their important work every day.”
Rep. Kennedy is currently serving her first term representing the 48th House District, which includes much of the Genesee County including the cities of Davison and Clio. Rep. Kennedy received her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Administration from Oakland University. Before serving in the Legislature, Rep. Kennedy spent 30 years in the field of public education and most recently served as principal in Walled Lake Consolidated School District.
