Kennedy calls for MI Department of Civil Rights Director to resign

DAVISON — After a closed session, the Michigan Civil Rights Commission voted recently to formally reprimand the state’s Department of Civil Rights Director, Agustin Arbulu, for making inappropriate comments objectifying women and creating an offensive work environment. Last week, it was revealed the comments included remarks about his daughter.  In response, state Rep. Sheryl Kennedy (D-Davison) is calling for his resignation, and has issued the following statement:

“Gender rights are civil rights, and Michiganders need to be able to trust the people in those offices to protect them. Director Arbulu’s comments and actions have proven that he is unfit to fulfill the duties of his office. The Commission took the first step with the reprimand, but this is not enough. To restore faith in the Department, Director Arbulu must resign.”
