LANSING — Last night, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued 147 line-item vetoes while signing state departmental budgets, before holding a State Administrative Board meeting this morning to transfer an additional $625 million in funding to other areas within the budget. In response, state Rep. Sheryl Kennedy (D-Davison) issued the following statement:

“Republicans repeatedly refused to negotiate or work on the budget for months in an attempt to force a government shutdown and place the blame on a Democratic governor. What they finally came up with was full of pork, legislative overreach, and unfunded programs and projects — balanced all on the backs of our students and teachers. I applaud Gov. Whitmer for standing firm in her convictions by eliminating so many wasteful earmarks, and I’m ready to keep fighting for the good schools, clean water and safe roads our communities deserve.”
