LANSING, Mich., June 3, 2022 — Recording and training materials obtained by Politico outline how Michigan Republicans plan to train partisan operatives as poll workers. The plan then places these workers in direct contact with Republican party attorneys to have more leverage to contest election results in Democratic precincts, including Detroit, Southfield and Pontiac. State Rep. Matt Koleszar (D-Plymouth) issued the following statement in response:
“It is not only unethical but deeply disturbing that Michigan Republicans actually met to orchestrate a plan that deliberately tries to harass voters and create chaos in our election system. Michigan has a proud history of free and fair elections. To send Republican operatives into communities of color to meddle in our elections erodes the trust and integrity our democracy is built on. We cannot allow such unprecedented, subversive attacks on Michiganders and our democracy to go unchecked.”
