LANSING, Mich., Aug. 17, 2022 — Members of the House Democratic Caucus held a press conference today to denounce the lack of legislative session while Michiganders are paying the salaries of their representatives to tackle the issues affecting them. From high prices on gas and groceries to the threat of reproductive health care being taken away, Democrats have legislation ready to move, but Lansing Republicans who set the calendar won’t come back to work from their summer vacation. After the event, state Rep. Matt Koleszar (D-Plymouth) issued the following statement:
“Today, Democrats came together to make a statement — it’s time to get back to work. We are ready and willing to work for you and for the betterment of all Michiganders. It’s time for the majority party to end its summer vacation and get back to the Capitol. I spoke on House Bill 5176 today. It gives families a back-to-school sales tax holiday to assist families and students with the financial burden of getting back on the bus and in the classroom. It’s time to keep the wheels rolling, even at the Capitol.”
