PLYMOUTH, Mich., April 18, 2023 — The Michigan Departments of Health and Human Services and Technology, Management and Budget, as part of the state’s continued commitment to provide behavioral health services to Michigan, announced the location of a new inpatient psychiatric hospital located in Northville. The building of the new hospital is being made possible by a $325 million fiscal year 2023 budget allocation by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Legislature. It will care for patients currently served at both Hawthorn Center and Walter P. Reuther Psychiatric Hospital in Westland.
Following the announcement, state Rep. Matt Koleszar (D-Plymouth) issued the following statement:
“The ongoing mental health crisis is something that we need to address as a community and as a state. The Hawthorn Center is a critical provider for inpatient behavioral health care, and I’m happy they will be building a new state-of-the-art hospital in our district that will provide residents with this crucial care. I will continue to support policy and funding that improve the health and well-being of Michiganders.”
