LANSING — Yesterday, state Rep. Robert L. Kosowski (D-Westland) was appointed to the House Appropriations Committee for the 2017-2018 legislative session. The Appropriations Committee is divided into 16 subcommittees that set budget recommendations for state departments and programs.
Kosowski was named as the Democratic vice chairman of the School Aid and Department of Education Subcommittee. Having one of the largest budgets in the state, it deals with funding for K-12 education.
"I am both honored and humbled that the House leadership team would trust me with such a vital role," Kosowski said. "I can think of nothing more important than to help lead and evaluate discussions surrounding funding for kids in Michigan's schools. Our children are our future. They are this state's most valuable asset, and I am excited to begin discussions on how to ensure Michigan educators are getting the proper funding needed to see our kids flourish."
Additionally, Kosowski has been assigned as the Democratic vice chairman of the State Police Subcommittee and will also serve on the Health and Human Services Subcommittee.
"For the past two sessions, I have served on policy committees," Kosowski said. "Being a former city administrator for the city of Westland, I have a lot of experience in dealing with budgets. I am looking forward to this change and working with the other members of the Appropriations Committee through this next legislative cycle."
