LANSING, Mich., May 10, 2022 —  State Rep. Padma Kuppa (D-Troy) voted yes today to send a proposed amendment to the Michigan Constitution to the November ballot. The amendment would require annual financial disclosure from legislators and state officers and change the number of years an individual can serve in the Legislature. After the vote, Kuppa issued the following statement:

“This amendment is a priority not only for people, but upholding democracy. Michiganders deserve proper information about their politicians, along with access to evaluate, interpret and become more informed about their representatives. I voted yes to secure the future of a representative democracy and to create accountable, ethical standards within Michigan government. The amendment would allow constituents to get to know their representatives better by providing a larger scope into their financial ties and giving those constituents an opportunity to cast their vote, with more knowledge and certainty, than ever before.”
