LANSING, Mich., May 10, 2022 — The House of Representatives voted today to send a proposed amendment to the Michigan Constitution to the November ballot. The amendment would require annual financial disclosure from legislators and state officers and change the number of years an individual can serve in the Legislature. After the vote, state Rep. David LaGrand (D-Grand Rapids) issued the following statement:

“I value democracy, which means I value transparency. With transparency comes accountability and trust, and, as state representatives, it is our responsibility to give that to the citizens who voted us into office. To echo what I stated during the ethics press conference this weekend — when voters send us to the Capitol, they deserve to know whether we’re serving their interests or our own. For years now, I have fought to do just that by sponsoring legislation that pushes for transparency and by disclosing my own financial records. I am invested in this amendment because I am invested in democracy.”
