GRAND RAPIDS — State Representative David LaGrand (D-Grand Rapids) took the oath of office today in the House chamber and officially joined his colleagues. He also took part in a swearing-in ceremony last week at the Grand Rapids Public Schools Administration Building auditorium.
“It’s truly an honor to be elected to the Michigan House of Representatives. This office, and the oath I swore today, is a responsibility I will take very seriously,” LaGrand said. “I look forward to my first day at the Capitol and getting to work for the families, students and seniors of Grand Rapids.”
LaGrand won a special election to replace former Rep. Brandon Dillon, who resigned to become chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party. LaGrand served on the Grand Rapids City Commission and the Grand Rapids Board of Education prior to his election. He has a bachelor’s degree from Calvin College and a law degree from the University of Chicago. He and his wife, Melissa, have four children.
